Taimi Introduces New Onboarding Feature for Polyamorous and Non-Monogamous Users

Taimi, a fully inclusive LGBTQ+ dating app, continues expanding its commitment to providing a welcoming space for everyone, no matter how they love, by launching a unique feature designed specifically for polyamorous and non-monogamous users. With this new onboarding option, Taimi is to break new ground in the world of dating apps.

What’s New?

The new feature allows just registered users to customize their profiles by selecting their preferred romance type, whether they are polyamorous individuals, are part of a polycule or couple, during the onboarding process. Customized profiles support users in finding like-minded folks who share their relationship preferences, creating a more tailored and inclusive experience. Moreover, from now users with existing profiles are able to set their romance type in settings if they are open to explore ethical non-monogamy (ENM).

Why Now?

In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of ENM relationships, with more people openly exploring and embracing these dynamics. Research shows that approximately 4-5% of Americans are involved in consensual non-monogamy, and these numbers are steadily rising. At Taimi, we believe in providing features that reflect the fluid and diverse ways people experience romantic and sexual connection. Our internal research, including the Lesbian Visibility Survey and insights from Not All Unicorns and Rainbows, and our continuous communication with community highlighted the need for inclusive features catering safely to non-monogamous users, driving us to develop this new onboarding process.

How It Changes the User Experience

Whether polyamorous individuals, polycules, or couples, their romance type will be added to users’ bios, ensuring that all important icebreaking information is visible and can encourage them to start a conversation. This change empowers users to express their identities and relationship choices more authentically, fostering a deeper sense of belonging within the Taimi community.

Early Success and Impact

The feature has already shown promising results during testing, with polyamorous users making up 4.0% of daily active users (DAU). Additionally, 1.4% of DAU polycules and couples, with 0.4% representing polycules, and 1.0% being couples. This data emphasizes the demand and necessity for a feature that caters to non-monogamous users.

What’s next?

With the increasing number of polyamorous users, as well as the growing user base in general, we at Taimi are planning to further develop this feature and integrate romance types into our matching algorithms in the nearest future.
